20 - 12 - 2021

The type of construction board you choose will depend on the the type of job you need it for.

With so many types of boards available, it can be difficult to decide which one is most suitable for you. Let’s explore each type of construction board that is available and all their different uses.

Plasterboard

A plasterboard provides an excellent surface for many types of decorating. It is a smooth, hard surface made from gypsum. They’re ideal for interior walls and ceilings because they don’t shrink, crack, or warp when you paint or wallpaper over them.

Loft boards

Loft boards are often used in homes under a roof structure to provide insulation and support for the floor above. They are occasionally used as fire barriers in some commercial buildings because they don’t burn as easily at high temperatures, which makes them safer than regular wood products.

Scaffold boards

Scaffold boards are used as part of scaffolding when tall buildings or bridges are being built. They give workers something stable to stand on while working on their projects without fearing falling off something unstable like a ladder.

They are typically made out of wood, which is ideal if you’re carrying out heavy-duty building work. If you’re only doing light building work, they are available as metal or plastic boards. They’re also ideal for furniture making, decking, flooring and cladding.

OSB boards

OSB board is plywood made with oriented strand board (OSB) as its core material. They’re commonly used for roof applications because they don’t absorb moisture like traditional plywood normally does. This makes them ideal for protecting against leaks from weather elements such as rain or snow as they help to stop water from seeping into your home’s roof decking system.

Floorboards

Floorboards are typically made from softwood but they can also be made from other materials such as recycled plastic. Depending on what kind of look you want for your room, these boards can be used as a replacement for carpeting or hardwood floors.

Gravel boards

Gravel boards are wooden or composite boards used underneath fence panels. You can also get concrete gravel boards that are made of either dry-cast concrete or reinforced with steel rods or wires.

Gravel boards protect fences from the elements as they prevent water from seeping through at ground level. This can be very helpful if you live in an area with a lot of rain or snowfall. They’re easy to install and don’t require a lot of expertise or special tools.

Insulation board

Insulation boards can be made from various materials such as expanded polystyrene (EPS), polyisocyanurate and dense glass. They’re often used to insulate walls and roofs as they can act as sound barriers to help dampen vibrations and sounds.

MDF board

MDF stands for Medium Density Fibreboard and they are boards that are made from wood fibres. Their most common use is for making furniture such as kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

Feather edge boards

These boards are made from timber and can be also known as ‘close board fencing’. This is because they have a very close grain pattern that gives them a ‘feather-like’ appearance when you look at them up close.

Feather edge boards are commonly used in fencing projects because they offer an attractive look whilst providing strength against damage caused by weather conditions such as rain or snowfall.

Decking boards

Decking boards are usually made from recycled plastic and they are commonly used to create a deck in your home or business. They are lightweight, durable, and impact-resistant. Depending on your needs, decking boards are available in different thicknesses. Some boards also have a textured surface to prevent you from slipping if you walk on them in wet conditions.

Fence boards

Fence boards are the basic parts of a fence, providing privacy and marking the boundaries of a property. They are usually made from wood, vinyl, or composite materials and come in different styles to match various looks. Whether arranged in a traditional picket style or a modern horizontal design, fence boards can enhance the appearance of a property. Regular maintenance, like staining or sealing, helps keep them strong and looking good for a long time.
